Home Research People Publications News Contact Us Home Welcome! We are interested in developing new tools, techniques, and systems for medical imaging. All of our research involves ultrasound, including development of novel sensors, contrast agents, and image and signal processing algorithms. We are part of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory , the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech , and the Bioengineering Graduate Program . We are also part of the Georgia Center for Medical Robotics . Motivation Physicians form diagnoses based largely on information in imaging scans. More than 500 million of these scans are performed each year in the U.S. (U.S. population is only ~320 million). While current imaging techniques are capable of detecting and localizing lesions commonly found in mid-stage disease, these scans often lack the functional information needed to determine which treatment strategy will be most effective for a given patient and to assess early-stage treatment response. Our research seeks to address these challenges by developing functional imaging approaches for procedural planning and guidance, therapeutic delivery, and monitoring treatment response. We do this by designing and fabricating novel instrumentation, developing and validating new processing algorithms, and synthesizing custom contrast agents for ultrasound imaging of vascular and molecular indicators in cardiovascular diseases and cancer. News Welcome Natalia! January 7, 2020 Natalia Pato Montemayor is joining us this semester to work on intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and signal processing! Welcome, Natalia!
